Tensions are high in the Brooke Valley community following a fatal police operation on Wednesday.

According to reports from the Jamaica Constabulary Force, law enforcement officers were conducting an operation in the area when they reportedly came under heavy gunfire.

The police say they returned fire and, during a subsequent search, discovered a man suffering from gunshot wounds.

He was transported to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

However, residents of Brooke Valley are challenging the police account.

One woman who spoke with Loop News claimed that a group of residents were attending a party when a team of officers arrived.

Moments later, she said, loud explosions were heard, and shortly after, police were seen leaving with a man’s body.

Community members describe the deceased as a hard-working individual and dispute any suggestion that he was involved in criminal activity.

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) is expected to probe the incident as questions continue to swirl around the circumstances of the shooting.
